Awards Recognise COVID Triumph Film ‘Grand Theft Hamlet’ with Fitsmaurice Award

In 2025, the British Screenwriters Awards returned with a single award, for the team behind ‘Grand Theft Hamlet’.

The award given was the ‘Fitzmaurice Fucking Awesome Award’, an award to celebrate creativity against all odds.

Sam Crane and Pinny Grylls attended the closing of the London Screenwriters’ Festival to accept the award in person.

The London Screenwriters Festival was hit hard by COVID and has now managed to return to former glory and will be remounting the awards in 2026.

What better way to celebrate this than to award a film that was about COVID itself, and with an award in the name of a film maker who embodied the essence of unstoppable, Simon Fitzmaurice.

As Pinny Grylls said from stage ‘We all need to be Mavericks in this industry…’

Here’s to the full blown awards in 2026!
